Drawing of new Chantry Way buildingThe new building will incorporate a main hall with a kitchen/servery, 3 meeting rooms, the Community Hub, Council meeting chamber and staff office.

The MAIN HALL is designed as a multi-use space. It will have a capacity of approximately 162 people seated; include enough storage such that the hall can be cleared for floor based events; incorporate a raised stage area for shows/concerts; a large projection screen on the wall and an integrated kitchen/servery area.

Possible uses of this space include concerts by choirs or orchestras, drama / plays or events by groups such as operatic societies. It could be used for prize givings; meetings; activity events such as yoga, dancing or general keep fit; presentations by groups or businesses and somewhere which would be of interest to an anchor tenant such as a pre-school group.

The COMMUNITY HUB is an open space designed for pop-up information booths or for advice/drop-in sessions. We envisage possible use by, for example, the Police and other service providers, perhaps a terminal access to Basildon Council services or a one-stop shop for services provided by our three local authorities: Billericay Town Council, Basildon Borough Council and Essex County Council; it could be used as a hub/drop-in for community groups and charities, feature local community displays or community notice boards and potentially tourist information.

There are three MEETING ROOMS of different sizes ranging from 20 to 33 square metres which are aimed at small to medium sized groups for whom the hall would be too large. These could include business meetings, community group, charity or social meetings.

The COUNCIL CHAMBER is a meeting room for public Council meetings and is designed to encourage easier public viewing and more active participation. It will also be used for working parties and other regular meetings that Councillors have, as well as being available for hire when not in use by the Council.
