War Memorial repairs

The final stage of works to the War Memorial were completed on Monday when Bakers of Danbury came to repair and repoint some of the joints on the main Memorial stone and also some of the defective brick pointing on the walls of the Memorial. This was the first time the Town Council had used crowd funding for a project and the results have been fantastic.

Cllr Moira Moore, Chairman of the Environment Committee said “thanks to the generous residents and businesses that contributed to the crowd funding we were not only able to purchase the There But Not There Tommies, repave and light the memorial at night, but the surplus funds received have allowed us to carry out these repair works which have greatly enhanced our War Memorial”. Thanks also to the team at the Mary Magdalen Church who gave access to their facilities for the duration of the repair works.
